HERE’S TO HAVING HOPE, RIGHT HERE

Living in the moment
is learning how to live
between the big moments.
It is learning how to make the most
of the in-betweens and having the audacity
to make those moments
just as exciting.

Learning how to live in the moment is learning how to practice hope right where you are.

The word "hope" often gets overused to the point that it may feel too passive or even meaningless. However, all you have to do is go back a few years in your own life to find moments where you didn't have a plan for the way things would work out, but you had hope that they would. You had hope that your heart would heal. You had hope that you would make it through that challenging season of your life. Somewhere along the line, you had hope. And you began to practice it, right where you were.

We can make the most of where we are right now by practicing hope, right here. We can sow seeds - literal and metaphorical ones - whether or not we know how those seeds will bloom.

You can sow seeds of love in your life right now and hope that they will spread.

You can sow seeds of gratitude by listening closely to a friend and hope that you learn something from that interaction.

At times, having hope might make you feel like a little kid waiting on Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy...and if that's the case, what's wrong with that? What's wrong with imagining that some mysterious, exciting example of hope will appear in the sky just outside your window?

When we were younger, it was much easier to be in the present moment and find hope within it. But that little candle is still lit within. That part of us that used to imagine anything could be possible is still there inside of us and it's not too late to fan the flame. It's never too late to imagine that this very day has something exciting to offer. And it's actually quite courageous to be one of the ones who dares to believe that something good could happen today.

Here's to having hope, right here.
Here's to believing something good is still possible.

Living in the moment isn't always easy, but it's worth it. By learning how to live in the moment, we can make the most of every day and find hope right where we are.
