YOUR NONLINEAR STORY

Perhaps one of the reasons why it is often hard to see the progress we are making is that, oftentimes, we easily forget that our progress is not linear. The progress we make happens over the course of a lifetime, through a landscape that is not always easy to follow as a simple step-by-step process. Instead, it is a lifelong journey through a complex and varied terrain.

Whenever you start to feel like progress is slow and you are not moving through whatever you are going through fast enough, remember the nonlinear nature of your story. From the river deltas that empty their water from one body of water to another to the stars in the sky that pulsate in nonlinear ways, we are surrounded by reminders of this. Trying to make sense of our lives by thinking of it only as a step-by-step process can be limiting and only reveal so much.

There is so much more to your story and who you are. One of the ways you can begin to embrace that is by recognizing that there will not only be ups and downs but also ways to move around in a spatial nonlinear way. Even when you find yourself in the high mountains or the low valley, that terrain is complex and often winding, requiring you to pace yourself, whether you are high or low.

Remember to take moments to slow down and remind yourself that it's okay if progress doesn't feel linear. It's okay to spend your time right now focusing on how you can breathe through each moment and focus on what matters most as you learn to move through wherever you are in the landscape.

More tomorrow…
Sincerely,
