MAKING SPACE FOR POSSIBILITY
When life has changed in more than one way the future may appear as a series of question marks, too open-ended to make sense of. It can feel like arriving at that part of the journey where the need to continue has outlasted your strength, where what comes next feels far away..
And if you find yourself in these spaces, may you know that you are free to allow yourself unhurried reflective moments, however you can. Moments that remind you: you do not have to figure out everything at once. Moments where slowness is not a weakness, but the very thing often mistaken for falling behind that allows new possibilities to come to life.
When the journey is long and life keeps moving around you, it may be hard to shut everything off and become perfectly still. But what if, even among all that remains unfinished, slowing down could create a little room along the way to imagine what has not yet had room to appear?
You can begin by noticing what remains beneath all that has been asking for your attention. Let stillness reveal what remains true beneath the pressure. There is still time to imagine who you could be beyond who you have been, the expectations placed on you, and the demands of the moment. You are free to take your time and let your imagination grow.
And in stillness, especially this wandering, spacious kind of stillness, perhaps imagination could look like asking questions and allowing time for the answers to emerge. You can ask yourself:
What potential lies dormant beneath the surface, waiting to be unearthed? What future awaits your courage, beyond the hesitations born from external pressures? What version of yourself yearns to be realized, beyond the roles you’ve been asked to fill? What if imagining another possibility does not make this life a failure? What if you made room for …?
…and you can take time to fill in the gap however you choose.
These are questions you can spend time with. You don’t have to answer them right away. In fact, the more space you give them, the more they might just begin to reveal. They might seem small at first, but it is often that kind of smallness that gives possibility somewhere to begin.
Let your unhurried reflection make space for imagining possibility…the kind of possibility that doesn’t rely on making fast decisions or immediately progressing or adding something new to have value, but the very thoughts, questions, and slow attention beneath those things that are often overlooked. There can be meaning in a possibility…significant in things still forming. Roots moving beneath the soil, forming something before it appears.
Allow yourself moments of quiet to simply be, for this too can be a place where you imagine, regroup, plan, and dream. Roots moving beneath the soil, and questions continuing beneath the surface. There can be room here for wonder, questions, and possibility.
More tomorrow…
Sincerely,
